| Subject: Bulacan Scene Report Wed Sep 17, 2008 6:28 pm | |
| eto mula sa probinsya namin. sinulat ilang taon na nakalipas ng tropa kong si Pao ng Springbreak. historical kumbaga. and i quote: BULACAN SCENE REPORT Bulacan, known for its old Spanish ancestral houses and the Barasoain Church in the ten–peso bill. Well, those are historically telling. Once Bulacan had produced an underground scene of its own, somehow, many noticed that the scene is lying low a little bit too long (that’s years ago, I think), well that’s what others have said but still there is a scene, surviving, d.i.y. – ly. But now, you can never disagree that the Bulacan Scene is lying low, because it’s not and it’s evident. It’s rising and making a name of it’s own in a not competitive way, but just making other scenes aware that there is an active scene here, and its composed of mixed genres and all of the scenesters are somewhat connected to each other, like having solidarity and not musically discriminated, a visible way is for example gigs, where eventhough the instruments are not that sooo good, we still push through. We’re punks here right and what’s important we are surviving, and talking about politic-wise, the bulacan scene is involved in rallies, and acknowledged by the groups and organizations like anakbayan and the likes. Music-wise the bands here are now dedicated on making a demo of their own, pretty good effort guys, be aware for the release of the compilation, and before I forgot, we have the bulacan scene website, it’s very informative so please check it out, here’s the address: www.bulacancrew.cjb.netwww.geocities.com/bulacancorecordswww.geocities.com/bulacan_uprising.I also hope that the zines travel as far as where you are. We all know that every scene has its uniqueness and here’s what makes the BULACAN UNDERGROUND SCENE unique, well like those old structures here in bulacan, particularly we have a certain old school touch and that’s really what’s were known for, aside from that, we are known by other gigs by the growing ska fanatics and bands, but what spices up the scene is the diversity the bands is giving, there is now the pop punk dudes, the hardcore devotees, the new and old school punks, the 2nd and 3rd wave ska lovers, the emo kids, and the ever growing group of skinheads (non-racist type), all these friends and respects each others type of music. I think that’s what you call unity. Let me just say that I’m not separating the scene or anything, I’m just kinda advertising the scene for you guys who have not yet visited the hospitable and appreciative scene of ours. I hope one of these days you’ll have a chance, and experience the feel our scene. Well this is getting shitty and dramatic, so read on. So here’s an updated scene report of Bulacan, err, just majority of them are from Malolos City but still I tried my best to compile them up wherever town they may be based. ILL ASKATRACH are hardcore geeks from Bulacan who have a cd titled "Geeky Noise Euphoria", second release from WHatCORE? Records, with bonus tracks from their "Reinventing The Memories" mcd. PLAY, which is a brother band of Ill Askatrach and share the same vox, but with different approach, they play fast hardcore with sing along choruses. THROW have released their self-titled cd, hardcore punk from bands of 80’s (DeadEnds, TSA, Private Stock) http://listen.to/throw. THE TARTARS plays oi! music and have released their CD "The Liborio Kids" they kinda have a growing number of followers. NO PEACE AND SILENCE are hardcore punk rockers from Pulilan; they are the ones responsible for the site www.bulacancrew.cjb.net. As for their sounds they play cover from IOV to Kid Dynamite to Dead Ends. CERTIFIED IDIOTS bandana thrashcores who cover songs from WHN? but are now are writing their own songs, with Dada guitarist of Joy Junktion playing for them. JOY JUNKTION plays their own ska punk outfits with their own version of Betrayed’s "Never Meant To Be", they are currently working on their much awaited CD. DEAD BRAIN CELLS, hardcore guys with some members coming from THE MISTAKES (R.I.P.). ACCIDENT PRONE AREA, melodic punkers ala fenix-tx. SHIT SYMPATHY was once a grindcore band but now turned street punks, check out their 4-song demo tape. OCW are punks from Malolos, which plays Rancid, Suicide Machines, Operation Ivy and much more. SCARE THE DOGS one of some bands who plays mxpx tunes, half of them are playing in certified idiots. DESPITE OUR DEFFECTS is a low-fi indie emo pop band which has the vox of play as a drummer. ROOTS OF NATURE is an experimental band playing in Ethnic Sound, but now they’ve turned thrashcores. THE SCARS have released a demo and an album "confused" they returned to the scene with a new sound, skacore ala link 80. LON is a band from the group of youth for peace, they play their TRC renditions, another band from Baliuag is ASS, meaning against stars and stripes, well that’s what I’ve heard. They play old school hardcore punk. SPRINGBREAK is a punk band with emotional vocal approach. They are now playing their own set of compositions, and some songs from ataris. HUMAN ERROR, is band which plays metallic hardcore, some of the members are from the now defunct ZONE ZERO, which released a CD, Louie and the guys recorded their demo and will be releasing a split with an Indonesian band. PLASTIC DOG PARADE plays old school songs like The Ramones and Poreskin, but now chooses to play their original songs. Hagonoy based BIRCH TREE play mxpx – ish tunes, also from Hagonoy is SPO is a band which plays old school pinoy punk and known for their ex presidents combo rendition. FOOLTOYZ, an insane noisecore band, which has a cd out, "join and don’t be afraid", live recorded in a practice studio well that’s something new, this is a first release from WhatCore? Records. JUST FOR FUN is a group of trombone, trumpet, and sax players from other bands, and made a band of their own, as it is obvious, they play ska. Zines always affected life of punks here in Bulacan, well they kinda like to read, so here are some of them: FOR KIDS’ SAKE have released an issue concerning political views. First issue is titled "Fatal Blowdown" which tackles wars. Done by two girls, Jona and Mina. They are currently working on their much-awaited second issue, they are mostly pre-occupied in their studies. SPINKOTS done by Weng and Pidol, concerns about life and thoughts. They have two issues out, and planning to release a third issue. NORTHERN TERRITORY done by Dyey Reyes has 3 issues out, Dyey runs the label SHAMELESS RECORDS I think he has stopped doing zines though. RESIST TO EXIST done by Emman Jasmin, an anarcho fanzine. SIN zine done by Mike Mendoza, two religion-questioning issues out. SEARCH FOR TRUTH, also done by the creator of sin, had currently released his issue no. 2, he also runs a store named also SEARCH FOR TRUTH, which distributes and sells punk stuff (the tambayan of underground kids here in malolos) beside it is the wild child tatoo, Mike has also done a webzine www.geocities.com/bulacan_uprisings. Another zine here in bulacan is PUNK ‘EN THOUGHTS done by Alvin and Ramil of youth for peace, an org responsible for series of concerts in Baliwag Bulacan. Hippie Villa has released some fanzines, particularly TEENAGE ANGER and has done a documentary zine about the history of pinoy punk, PINOY PUNK ‘87, and WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN, HAPPY HARDCORE newsletters. Hippie also runs and punk music for poor people, he also made the webpage www.geocities.com/bulacancorecords. LAZY LOVES LOUSY, NEWSKASTER are renowned ska zines done by Jerry of Critics, but he is been lying low for a while. And yes, there is a stupid dumbass kid who has currently released two issues of his punk and personal zine called JUST. note: for the contact nos. and addresses of the bands and zines please email me at broken_scream@yahoo.com and i'll send it to you as soon as I get it. | |

| Bulacan scene is YOUTH FOR PEACE, they started the "Kalampagan Sa Baliuag" concert series. From then on, the scene in that part of Luzon came to be.
The best thing about the bulacan scene is: They could stand on their own. Allthough they have a vast territory, Baliuag, Pulilan, Bustos, Plaridel, Malolos and Hagonoy, people really know each other so much, which could alienate newcomers at first, but its good!
Its the only place that i saw where they proved that we dont need money just to have a good time, their amplifications might be a bit low but that wont stop them from partying, just give em a decent place and put on some bands playing loud music and theyre all set!!!

| i suggest magkaroon ng format/guideline sa materials mai-cocollate - at least this way yun magiging mga editors hindi masyado mahihirapan mag-synthesize nung materials.
parang ganito lang siguro (each topic meron konti narrative): - province, city, town - important dates/activities/gigs (this may include collaborations between different areas) - bands - zines & zine makers - gig organizers - collectives - venues - flyers - photogs/visual/graphic designers - labels audio / video releases - distros - socio-political activities?
ano pa ba?
maganda mahagip yun different musical preferences as long as d.i.y.
