that's the reasons why i just stay in the back. its still fun if i got dragged to the pit, but most of the times i stay out of it.

i remember one gig when mr. skinhead organizer took a jest on me while his wife's band was playing onstage. nagta-timing lang akong pumasok sa pit and then he slammed against me and i went flying right through the fecking speakers but it was alright i just stood up and did my business with some of my friends in the pit. i was plastered and it didn't matter because we were all having a laugh.

sa ngayon, hindi na puede e. matanda na ako at di na kaya ng buto ko hehehe....

anyway, i remember the Beasties once made some MOSH PIT DOS AND DON'TS for Lollapalooza '94. i googled the article and hey, buhay pa!

The Beastie Boys' pointers for a successful and safe foray in the pit:

DON'Ts

1) DON'T ELBOW, KICK, PUNCH, THRASH, SMASH, SKANK, or do any other dance that can only be performed at the expense of others. Respect all people, not just yourself!

2) DON'T FLOAT! Unless you're a certified waif * AND as Bikini Kill fanzine reminds us, "don't think that cuz you are in the pit that you can get away with grabbing girls breasts or putting your hands down their pants or undoing her bra, etc. etc. Girls have as much right to mosh as anyone else adn just cuz she's slamming up against you doesn't mean she is in LOVE with you!"

3) DON'T ENCOURAGE FLOATING! Don't offer potential moshers a stirrup -- you're not a horse! Floating also leads to being passed over the barricade, which usually involves injury, ejection or humiliation at the hands of the authorities.

4) DON'T KICK UP DIRT! Or tomorrow you'll have black boogers -- plus it's wack!

moshing...in essence is part of the hardcore community. this is what separates this type of music.
i wouldn't want to point out that you're missing on the fun... but yung "hardcore" sa 'hardcore' eh yung emotion...our lives in almost all aspect are controlled..this is 1 avenue to let loose...to not just stand aside...but let ourselves be part of the lively music ...that..whether aminin mo o hindi, moves your body...kahit pigilan mo nga ulo mo eh napapa headbang ka minsan...at eto rin yung experience na bumabasag sa common idea na ang banda eh yung nasa stage...kaparte ka brad...kasali ka sa buong "dynamics"...walang stage. walang divider. pantay pantay tayo sa pit. at lahat tayo special. hehe.

and in all my moshing experience...NEVER pa akong seriously nasaktan...and most of T4/NCI eh walang nagkakasakitan. marami lang makulit...pero look at the faces bro..they're all smiling...doublecheck mo pa mga pics... now that is hardcore. and that is a community.

and the dont's...alam mo naman pag sablay na ginagawa mo...me nagre react or lalapitan ka organizer...or worse...me bibitbit sa yo palabas...hehe...
pero try it once...malay mo...you win a friend in the pit!

I respect your opinion and that it's really cool that you care enough for other's welfare but I've been to plenty of shows where the only thing going on in the pits were moshing and no one got hurt. Accidents happen unfortunately but I'd like to think that if there are people at shows who join a pit to intentionally attack others, they're usually taken care of in a non-violent way as quickly as possible as to not spoil the fun for others.

As for me, if I get hurt during a show, not really extreme but maybe punched in the head or something by accident, sure I'd be pissed but if it was by accident I could let it slide. Shit happens. I mean, when the music, the band that's playing is really intense, I think it should be expected that the reaction and they way the crowd expresses themselves will be as equally intense. Some people like moshing, some people like hardcore dancing, some people just like shaking their asses, whatever. As far as I'm concerned, as long as we have respect for other dudes and dudettes, it's all good.
