| i think each and every one of us is stuck between the notion of a: getting a point across and b: solidarity in non-mainstream/non-conformist movement. some if not most of us tend to associate the mainstream with an allegiance to consumerism and a whole slew of other things we stand against and call into question. the problem here is weighing out which has more bearing, bringing your message to a wider audience of people who might be able to process this and apply it to themselves or keeping a degree of exclusivity to this in an effort to have people seek it for the right reasons instead of having to conform to it as an imposition by mainstream media. bleh, i'm talking out of my ass here. | |

| ebong. ang sa akin lang e no one in the scene(laguna) even recalls seeing them be a part of the movement for the longest time. mga skater yung crowd nila. they never set up shows themselves. wala sa circle nila nagzi-zine. nung pumutok na mga pagig nila howell at pagig nyo sa sta rosa at LB/SP wala naman sila ah.so how can they say they grew up/they represent LAGUNA HARDCORE? laguna PUSSYCORE cge mananahimik ako, pero 'nak ng kabute naman oh. i bet my fat ass they had every intention of being a masa-core band to start with, along with their other contemporaries like hale, calaleelee at whatnot pogi bands. i really dont care how they plan to carry on their atrocious plans with conquering the myxcharts or mtv whatever. i even wish they succeed. wag lang nilang idamay ang eksena ng laguna dahil to begin with, hindi sila parte nun. naka tira lang sila sa laguna pero di sila parte ng movement. thats their only connection. period. id give them credit for playing what they play. sure. marunong naman pala sila tumugtog e. sa pag eexpand ng musika nila sa masa, go ahead. bakit ba hindi? andami nga sa eksana naten na nag compilation sa "major labels" eh, di ba. mga kakilala at iba ay tropa natin. di na issue ang pag major label eh. lahat ng paborito kong metal (foreign) nasa majors, most pf my punk/hc (foreign) early faves were on majors, kinoconsider ko ba silang sell-out? no. being major does not affect me. as long as di magbago ang original sound nila (which would plainly tell you that they're NOT doing it to please their label). this clown band can claim to be the "emoest" band in the whole RP for all i fucking care. pero stop having them shout "hardcore! hardcore! hardcore!" in their records. i really dont know how much of a fact this is pero ang kwento sa akin e me ganun ganung sigawan pa raw sa cd nila. hearsay or no hearsay i dont give a rat's ass abt it. just drop it, you thin-ass pussycore pussies. don't talk hardcore when you dont live hardcore. dont say you were, when you never was. TOKOINK!!! walang pepengol, babanatan ko kayo isa isa. PARTY MEMYA KINA MOT! Come one, come all! Dessstroy! | |

| Hi there,
My 2 cents on this ish:
I believe it will all go back to the "INTENTION" of the band or the artist who took the indie route as a means of going to the mainstream. Ask the question why they start the band in the first place. Is it because they wanted to express themselves thru their music? Or they simply want to become famous? I got some friends who openly admitted that they wanted to become famous thats why they played this and that. I respect them for that but i dont see them playing on our gigs because we got our own stand on this. But there were some bands who played what they wanted to play, and still got the attention of the masses without going into mainstream, maybe we should leave it like that.
We are in an age where the mainstream music business is in the verge of a downfall. Any band that hoped for a major label record contract is at a risk in losing it all: their principles, their aspirations and hope. But if they still believe that they could could gather success by selling themselves to the mainstream just to become rockstars, they could very well be.
And in the kind words of FUGAZI: "Nevermind what's selling, It's what you're buying" - "Blueprint" from Repeater album

| i think the question boils down kung ano ang INTENT ng banda when going "big" (re: signing up in a major label, playing pulp, etc.)..
kung ang intent mo is to spread your message (assuming meron), then by all means sige..gano ba kadami sa ten ang naging vegetarian dahil narinig naten si karl buechhnnaeerer ng earth crisis na ififirestorm tayo..haha..an of course when they went really big (nemesis) era..they sucked..is it a coincidence that when a b and goes major, their music begins to suck..general rule lang and as always, may exceptions..
if kung ang intent ng banda is to really make it big rockstars, never caring about any message, then by all means do so, but please drop the term HARDCORE. you're offending not just me but everyone else who have worked their asses off day in and day out para lang masustain yung hardcore punk community naten..
isa yun sa naging discussion namen ng valley of chrome when they were just starting out. rogel, jordan and the rest of the cavite crew were hanging out in our house at cavite when we talked about their plans about VOC. they were good musically but i think their ethics are a bit misplaced. they can play any arena show they wanted, we can still remain friends but i told him to drop hardcore. it should stay where its supposed to be. DIY. and this is one topic altogether. how DIY can you be these days? meron pang magsasabi ng take-4 e kapitalista because allegedly we charge"too high" sa gates..120 yata un pinakamataas na siningil namen and that was for the MAGRUDERGRIND, CRUX and DRIVEN FEAR tours..nakakatawa lang kase ang nagsasabi nun e mga taong bumibili ng TYPECAST CDs sa big chain record stores..
as far as playing PULP, i've always been skeptical about this, but if you can get one or two kids who will be involved in the hardcor epunk community for the rest of their lives among the thousands of kids attending the PULP show, then panalo pa dn tayo..haha..
yun lang po sir..it's all about the INTENT..

| The YFC crew once played at a gig in batangas or is it laguna i cant really remember(unless one of my buds correct me on this one) there was a band there who played machocore and the singer preached na " wag na tayong magpaligoy ligoy pa... lahat tayo gustong sumikat!!!" i was vexed by the term "gusto nating lahat sumikat"... damn instanly i hated the bands guts after their set( nagkaroon pa nga ng gulo nung gig na yun kasi majority ata gustong sumikat)...di ko na nga tinandaan yung pangalan nung banda kasi for me they sucked big time preaching that they(as they said we all) want to be stars on a DIY hardcorePunk show. In my opinion, i also respect bands who wants their music to the masses, (signing on major labels, playing on pulp concerts and be featured on Pulp magazine etc.) but dont expect i will support my ass on them, even though their music stays the same, even though they're still fuckin' Brutal as Fuck or still even Sick as Fuck, i will not support them anymore, i am not trying to be purist underground here, but sorry, this is my own opinion... i remember the band INHUMATE from France, these guys inspires me a lot, 15 years or more in the u.g existence but still they dont have any interest in any labels(underground labels, Indie labels or whatever) because they can do it on their own! though their releases are pro pressed but i still consider them as "DIY" because "they do it on their own" gusto ko lang ilista yung (Indie, U.G) bands na tumugtog na sa PULP: Bloddshed Mortal Grudge End Of Man Pile Driver VOC Sin Powertools Cog ____ ____ ____ ____ ala na akong maisip for now...pls. fill on the blanks, paki dagdagan, para malaman natin kasikatan nila.. | |

| We were asked to play SEIGE TOUR by Tower of Doom. Tourette Syndrome texted me last night because Macoy of Sin was asking us if we could play because there will be a Batangas leg of the tour. I said "Go! go! go!" We were asked to play in our hometown, with bands from elsewhere that I heard for the first time, (except Sin and VOC, plane divides the sky and april morning skies, what's up with the sky anyway...) and I felt excited. The reason was... Tang'na naman oh antagal ko ng hindi nakakatugtog sa Batangas. And like charmingman said over ym: "makakahakot tayo ng mga bagong mag kaka interest sa scene" Like postivementalattitude said, they've been skeptical about playing these Bis Ass gigs. PULP, TOWER of DOOM...hell, maybe they'll have full stacks on stage which I would love to toy around. But if we'd ever play (ngayun mejo dehado kasi me hassle sa gig sked with our drummer being in another band), I don't want to hear anyone say, we dropped hardcore and moved on to "bigger things". Parang nagiging ganun na ngayon ang banatan eh. If you played PULP, or even been in a PULP fest or something they organized, mejo me tataas na kilay sa banda banda dyan. And I guess I dislike this kind of mentality.. Ask the band...what their intentions are. If they want to stay DIY, then all my respects, they have it. If they wanna move on to bigger things (NOT STARDOM) then, they have my respect too. Ang pangit lang naman eh, the bands who write music, and play music, and sell music to unsuspecting kids, who pay good money for CD's they sell in big stores, but doesn't have the credibility to play what they wrote or what they're selling. Like, they play about hardships and whatnot na napagdaanan nila sa life, when in truth, they're livin' large. Or about politics and issues on governance but are afraid of getting water cannoned in protests.Any other conflicting lyrical issues? Death metal na takot sa patay? About what termulator said...about SOF.. I love these guys. What they sing about is real. lahat ng lyrics nila, they've gone through all that shit. I guess nung sinabi nila yun that time, they were refering to some other bands na me hassle sila that time of gig?? or they're drunk and doesn't have an idea what they're talkin about. Maybe if I heard them say that, something in my respect for them will be affected, but otherwise a good talk will wash it all away. They're good friends of ours. And believe me, there's more to the music they're playing than meets the eye. No New York Hardcore bullshit. Stardom? Yeah I guess they were aiming for a little more exposure out of the DIY scene. They even have a music video on myx. But when I saw the video on TV, I felt proud, even told my sister who was watching with me at the time na tropa namin yang mga yan. And I know, Batangas people who saw the vid felt the same way...or merun bang umangal? I haven't heard. And for all I know, our much anticipated music video never materialized because of our laziness and preoccupation on other things like work and family. But it's practically the same..we aimed for a video. And what media would better serve a video than the TV. We wanted a music video, but never stardom, or dropping out Hardcore or even thought about droppin' DIY. If some of you say it's all about the INTENT, then it would be wise never to pass judgement without first knowing the intent of the band. Our intent on playing the next gigs...Big Ass promotions or downlow DIY, we're playin' all the gigs we're invited to because this musical journey of ours won't be around forever. Better fish new audience and interests, for them to carry on what all of us started. Now that's intent. | |

ROCK EN ROLL!

| Yup. TYPECAST never claimed the "HARDCORE" tag. But they sure brought back the "BANGS" hairstyle hehehe.
Like i said, i always respect people/bands for their choice (read:stardom). But i dont see any of my band playing with them on the bill.
