Rapper-actor Francis Magalona succumbs to cancer

Multi-awarded Filipino rap icon Francis Magalona has passed away at the Medical City in Mandaluyong around noon today. He was 44.

According to TV reports, this was announced by actor Vic Sotto in the noontime variety show Eat Bulaga, where Magalona used to be one of the hosts.

Magalona, considered as a major pillar of rap music in the country, was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2008. He is survived by his wife Pia Arroyo and children Unna, Nicolo, Francis Jr., Elmo, Arkin, Clara, and actresses Maxene and Saab. - By Dino Maragay (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

Francis M was the only Filipino rapper worth listening to. He as socially consious and tried to bring a positive message to his music. Now that's he gone, local rap doesnt really matter. Everyone thinks Gloc 9 is so great. He may be the 2nd fastest rapper alive but his rymes are garbage.

As far as I could remember, FRANCIS M. ( and his music) was probably the first artist introduced to me (by my neighboring friend) when we came back here to the Philippines coming from the US. I didn't know any other Filipino music that time except for BING RODRIGO stuff my dad used to play in our Van when he was driving. lol!

Weird experience ko: Nun march 5 nasa Robinsons Imus kami ni misis, at dun ako una nakakita ng booth na nagtitinda ng orig na tshirt line ni Francis M. trip sana bumili ni misis kaso wala yun design na hanap nya.
