| POSTHARDCORE - I hate that term, implying that hardcore's dead. First used after the first wave of hardcore (80-84) courtesy of the Revolution Summer group and again after the youth crew explosion of the late 80's. It's not even a musical description. It describes a period when hardcore was supposedly over. Ugh. Good thing is I barely hear that word thrown around anymore. | |

| if there's a better term for this kind of punk, i'd like to hear it. the only reason i pay attention to any of these genre names is because i need something to set apart what i don't really want to listen to at the moment in regards to puink rock. the name is as stupid as emo violence is but yeah, you get the point naman.
ok, random question, Drive Like Jehu. y or n?

| hardcore will not going to meet its end it will always form new ideas, actions and musically driven stuff, post-hardcore are for those pipol hu really wants to stop struggling because the world says so, but let me tell an alternative, hardcore will still goin to be alive ang there will be no such thing as post-hardcore unless you(true till the end to its intent) hear it from yourself and ignoring the dictation of the world's fashion on "hardcore" using its purest form..hehehe just a thought | |

| ideology is out of the question and i think the majority of the bands who play this sort of music would agree there's nothing different between the DIY ethic seen in these kinds of bands or more traditional hardcore punk. i can't listen to thrashcore all the time and there are more types of punk rock than just that. so yeah. anyway, some people here still probably listen to that so i think it would be best if we kept this thread as neutral as possible. | |

| hmmm. i guess i'm an art fag then, nothing to be ashamed of that. elliott and kill holiday have been rocking my playlists recently.
it's really harsh to discriminate forms of music based on labels attached to them. post hardcore, or better yet, the word itself has become a device to describe some styles that came out after/as a result/as a reaction to the type of "hardcore" prevalent during different years.
it could be a another word in favor of the much dreaded "emo, screamo, emoviolece, or skramz", or basically it can still mean college rock, indie rock, experimental, discordant stuff, etc.
get what im going at here?
mic has a point, but i wouldn't consider it as an indicator that hardcore is dead. madaming magagalit dyan. just the way post punk would be a statement that punk is dead. (but punk being dead is a matter of debate, lol)
there would always be individuals in punk and hc who would try to broaden one's musical tastes. maybe they listen to a few mellower bands, try a different aesthetic outside the testosterone fueled beats we have all come across. some would try to incorporate that aestheitc to their current musical projects or apply it to a new one, which would be met by either disgust or appreciation for the more "palatable" sound.
disgust because palatable = pop or radio friendly = sellout or because they've gone soft, and this lack of aggressiveness = gay or lame for some who like it really brutal.
appreciation from some because theyre not afraid to change things and bring something new to the table or because it may be a sign of a more mature outlook/or broadening of taste or maybe it could be a rest from all the bands trying to destroy your hearing.
i could be wrong about the above, but i've learned not to really care about labels and just enjoy things for what they are without worrying about scene cred and all that shit.

anyway, i'm exploring my disco's back catalog. they were actually a pretty good post-hardcore band before they went all out math-rock/minimalist whatever. collapse of an erratic lung and language of numbers are pretty solid releases if can't get into cancer or paradise just yet.
