| Hey ya'll,
I'm a filipino punk from Toronto looking to do a zine on the scene in the Philippines (new and old). Most people here don't think the Philippines has any kind of cultural production, let alone a thriving punk scene.
I am going to be conducting interviews and making a cd comp for release with the zine. It will be 100% DIY and sold at the cost of production.
Currently seeking submissions for bands who would be interested in contributing to Canadians becoming a little less ignorant about the Philippines and maybe gaining a couple fans on this side of the world. Heads up, all submissions welcome, but I may not be able to include everything.
Thanks so much in advance to anyone willing to spare some time and share some tunes.
I can also be reached at allisonmagpayo(at)gmail.com or search me on Facebook. I'll check back here too.
Allison

| The Philippine punk scene is not only thriving but better than most of the shit produced by the west these days. Hope someone hits you up because this project sounds fuckin sweet.

| Hey dude,
Thanks for your reply! So far just I.O.V. has agreed to an interview (pretty much my fave of the older Pinoy punk I've heard, along with Abrasive Relations!), but hopefully we can stir up a crowd.
Thanks for your support.

| Hi Jamie, Please send away! Want to do a section on newer bands as well, mini band profiles and kind of get some younger people's impressions of the punk scene in the Philippines today, why they got into punk, what makes the Filipino scene unique, etc. Just sent off my interview questions for IOV and upcoming interviews with Abrasive Relations and Betrayed- so off to a good start so far! Konspira Zine has also been really helpful with suggestions too, but so many people I want to interview so it's going to be an ongoing project for at least a couple months! Anyway, Thanks for you interest in this project and I hope to hear from you! Allison P.S.- almost every response I've gotten so far has said "bro". you guys say that a lot over there or does everyone just assume I'm a dude!? ha | |

| GG Alison is such a great handle. Never have I seen a punk scene circumvent around capitalism, commercialism and the trappings of being an adult punk the way the Philippine punk scene has. Folks here in NorCal, or the U.S. in general would say that they play and live punk solely for the love of it but that is false for no truer a punk has there ever been than those who commute through horrendous traffic, work under shitty corporations and yet, still manage to build a successful scene.
I ain't saying that because people here on this forum have shown me support, I ain't saying that because I'm Filipino, I'm saying that because in all honesty (and you can visit the Philippines for yourself to see) that this scene is punk's best kept secret.

| di ko alam yun my friend. Baka makornihan ang mga tao sa sinusulat ako. I ain't Syke na master talaga.
May banda ako pero since may edad at pamilya na yung iba, mabagal ang progres.

| Jamie- I don't think I got your response?! re-send please!
Rupert- GG Allison is clever, but I can't really take credit for it. A friend made it up and it just stuck- my friends have been calling me that for years! The scene in the Philippines seems way more positive than the one here in Toronto, at least insofar as people actually seem to communicate, mutually support eachother on all of the filipino message boards/blogs/facebook etc I've seen. I'm psyched to visit the Philippines! I hope it can happen sooner or later, but I'm aiming for december!

| GG: Good name nonetheless.
Sorry to hear Toronto is like that. Bay area shows have almost been monopolized by small cliques of those in the know type of muck-a-mucks. People who to me, seem elitist and uniform and who like you said, show little support for those outside their circle.
I go to shows quite often and the scene seems to be inbreeding, the result is the same hipster types opposed to dancing and any record that is not the Slowmotions or Protex.
I too am aiming for December is work, school and my art allows.

Just when I am about to lose hope on the scene. It's just me, btw. hehe. Thanks Rupert! Allison - I could send you my zine for review, if that's all right.
